Melaka: Ole Sayang vs Bibik Neo's

The first time we ever went on a road trip, it was to Fraser's Hill. Along the way, we made a pit stop at Melaka, in search of some good Chendol and Nonya food. Unfortunately, when we got there, it was past 8. However, a very friendly local told us to head to Bibik Neo's for supper.

Maybe we were hungry, maybe it was just the thrill of our first road trip, but the food tasted so good. Every road trip we've made since then, we've included Melaka and Bibik Neo on our agenda.

Yesterday, I was introduced to Ole Sayang.

Many apologies to Bibik Neo, but even with Ole's harried service staff, the food and ambience still wins. I'm sure there are many who might disagree with me. Some would say that Ole Sayang is just a tourist trap? But judging from the crowds, it must be a very acceptable tourist trap.

I have no idea how much our meal cost, because our generous friends gave us a treat. However, I would not be surprised if it ran into a couple of hundred ringgit, or more. However, there were 12 of us eating and with every dish a culinary delight, it's still value for money.

Considering the savings from the plane fare, the scrumptious food, afffordable shopping and nostalgic Peranakan architectural and cultural flavours, J and I decided that Melaka is just as wonderful a getaway as Bangkok and we're definitely going back again.
