FOTD & Phlook

I wanted to explore Phlook's functionality. I was intrigued by their interactive photos that lets viewers add notes/comments and zoom into photos, right on my blog itself. Its sort of like Flickr or Facebook, except you can leave notes ON the blog itself, instead of having to navigate to the site on which the photos are hosted.

Plus,they let me upload large pictures -- up to 2600 x 2600.

So here's my FOTD.

From Silk Naturals...
Eyes: Basalt + Terra + Bone
Cheeks: Satisfied
Lips: Foreplay

From Eve Pearl...
Face:
Magic Salmon Concealer (Medium + Light)
High Definition Dual Foundation (Medium)

This is taken outdoors, with flash. Yes, I look like I surprised myself -- HAHA!

I messed up the eye make up because I was trying something new that I saw Eve Pearl do on her Asian intern. I'm not by any means an expert in make up application. I'm a noob. But even if I can't play like Nadal, it doesn't mean I should give up tennis, yes?

I had so much fun playing around with SN's Stonewashed Nudes Palette (a dupe of Bobbi Brown's). They're very versatile colors. I could smoke them out or just apply them for a soft natural look. The texture is so silky smooth and the staying power is impressive. I've tried them on without primer, and they last at least 8 hours.

Just to clarify, these photos are here as a reference, in case you're thinking of getting something from Silk Naturals too. This is not a "how-to". Those you can get from the many many much more expert bloggers/youtubers out there.

I just think that it's always best to have a variety of photos of the product, in different conditions, by different people. I'm just adding to the pool out there and maybe help someone decide.

And by the way, the lip gloss "Foreplay" was made to go with the blush "Satisfied", which is an adapted version of the hugely popular Nars Orgasm clone: "Climax".

I LOVE THE WORD PLAY!!! If you don't get it, nevermind. They're great colors nonetheless.

So, what's the conclusion about Phlook? Any good?

p/s: The word verification thing is making me type in "noncest". Reminds me of "incest". Hmmmm.....

Actually, its pretty good. The website is not as sleek looking but its functional.

What I don't like:

They could do better to rotate the pictures in their sample phlook pic on their index page, but tt's aesthetic gripe, not a technical one.

It took me awhile to realise that the "grid style" for showing pics is just the default starting style for showing slideshows. I was searching high and low for a good 20minutes on how to make my album into a grid.

The captions/titles of photos don't automatically appear with the photo. You'd think with such advanced apps attached to the pic, something as simple as a title/caption showing up would be automatic. But no.

I don't like the horrible square of advertising they put on the top right hand corner of the photo. Even when it only appears when I mouseover, it still feels invasive. I know they need to advertise, but something a little more subtle could do just as well, maybe even better.

What I like about it:

full-sized picture uploads.

Ability to leave comments on the picture, directly from my blog.

Zoom function.

BUT, whenever a fb friend leaves a comment on my fb photo, the people tagged are informed.

So I think that I will use this function ONLY FOR blogging my make up stuff.

But for my everyday life, vacation pics, etc, I'm going to stick to fb and then embed the pics from using the fb link.

Ok, on second thoughts, I'm not going to be using Phlook anymore.

I use Picasa to organise and catalogue my photos. It uploads to Picasawebs. Which is accessible by online photo editing site Picnik. Which in turn allows me to upload the edited picture immediately to multiple social networking sites, including Facebook.

From there uploading the photo to blogger is as simple as embedding the link from Picasawebs.

Do I need commenting on the photo itself? Not at this moment. Facebook is good enough for the commenting aspect.

And somehow, I cannot get over how they invade my personal space by adding a very intrusive square ad box on the photo.

Oh, and because it uses flash, it limits the number of people who can view it. True, it is hard to find any computer without flash and to install it takes seconds. But what about restricted computers?

In a nutshell, this is a great application on first look, but phlook is just a fluke.
