Foodie Find: Goodyear Seafood Viilage
I don't often rave about the seafood restaurants that I go to because I haven't eaten at one where both the food and service impressed me. Goodyear Seafood Village has changed that.
What's to love?
For one thing, they accomodated our unique ingredients choices with patience and understanding. We don't eat seafood or pork and Hotplate Toufu is usually served with all that. So when the chef accidentally added prawns in the dish, it was quickly removed, apologies were made, and the owner personally delivered a freshly made seafood & pork free version -- with a genuine smile!
Refills of soup stock for our steamboat was quick, efficient and of the 4 refills (yes, we love soup), twice it was topped up without us having to ask for it!
The owner is a young-looking chap named Boon and he came over to greet us and he was genuinely interested in what we thought of his food. He said it was the best way to improve becuase most times, customers just walked away & never return. This way, he finds immediately if they're dissatisfied about any dish & he can make amends immediately.
I also love the ambience. This is not a uppity restaurant. This is like travelling to Johor Bahru or Yong Peng. Some could call it "ulu", we like to call it "rustic". It really felt good to be away from the maddening crowd.
So where is it? I don't have the exact address. Just go to the old Tampines Road near to Ikea. Its just after the string of Chinese Temples. You can't miss it. Especially at night, when its the only structure glowing with life.
Update: Someone left a comment on my note on this on Facebook. She said...
""hi faith...the address of the place you talking about is
No 15 Tampines Ave
Old Tampines Road
Singapore 529788
11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
5 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Easy to recognise as there are many temples along the stretch of road leading to this place.
The young chap operates the place with his mum. His dad got this for them to pass time (very interesting description by the dad)
You tried their steamboat. Their zhi-char dishes are very nice and potion is good.
Been there many times and have brought rachel's parents there last december.
You do not consume seafood and pork...may i suggest you try their cereal toufu, cereal chicken... the cereal is nice as it is fried with curry powder and curry leaves and chilipadi. gives a unique taste. Their egg omelet with chyepoh is yummy(got to be since Rachel's dad enjoyed it) Also try the chicken wing fried (they have various version. cannot remember which one we got for Rachel's dad)"
